How to feed oyster shell?

Do you mix it into their regular food, or have it in a separate feeder?

It's usually best to feed it in a separate feeder. That way, those hens (the ones actively laying eggs) can eat what they want and everyone else can pretty much leave it alone. This includes chicks, roosters, sick hens, molting hens or elderly hens.

I put it in a small container so they can peck at the granules, if I have powder left in the container, I mix it with the feed.

Never mix oyster shell with feed. The powder will coat the feed and that will cause them to have excessive calcium and lead to kidney failure.
I use cage cups near the water or feed with each flock. Just make sure it can't get rained on as that will make it mushy.
