How to find homes for too many roosters?

I, unfortunately, have 2 too many roosters in my flock. I do not have the space to add hens and my neighbors can probably only take so much crowing :) I was hoping I would end up with a better ratio but it is what it is and I need to find the roosters new homes. The only farm I found so far would take them for meat only. I would have to put up signs in the local feed stores but I'm not sure that will get me anywhere. How else do I find them a "home"?

Try advertising on Craigslist under the farm section. That’s where I sell all of mine and it works great.

The best thing you can do is really sell the chicken. Explain the breed and the qualities of that breed. You’ll have to act like a car salesman, but you are a chicken salesman.

I would not chase off anyone that would like to use them for meat because that is what most male chickens are used for. There are also people out there that might want to use them for breeding. Also people keep roosters as pets.

So don’t get discouraged.

Good Luck 🍀

I don’t know about others, but roosters were one of the main concerns of ours before getting into it. We were reassured by many farmers and my sis that there are always options, just some take time and effort and others take choices. If you can accept that they may be food at some point there are plenty of farms and hobbyists out there that will take and raise them gladly.. if becoming food is out of the question, there are usually animal, or even chicken; sanctuaries somewhere vaguely nearby dependent of your area, just involves a bit of searching, maybe some support, and possibly a trek of travel. Either way Kijiji and Craigslist are free, if you know a hunter or butcher personally then they can always be an addition to the freezer once they reach their potential cutoff for you.
