My hens are about 1.5 years old (2 Black Sex-Links, 1 Barred Rock). One of the BSL's went broody for the first time about a week ago and egg production dropped to less than 1 per day. We were steadily getting 2-3 a day but now only the BR is laying...and the broody hijacks her egg! I've tried closing her out of the coop for a few hours, I remove the egg as soon as I can get to it, and I even tried putting an ice cube under her. Which only drove her out of the next box and into the coop.
Clever chicken...
Any ideas, aside from getting her a fertile egg to hatch? How long will this last and will she and the other BSL start laying again once she's "finished"? Thanks in advance for the help.
