So i sat my hova-bator outside one day a while back to sun dry after being bleached....well not long after i put it out the dumb ducks came along and chewed the side of it up!!!

only the bottom is damaged, and just the lip, but i am worried that it will leak a lot of air/moisture.....they arent the best to begin with

is there any way to repair the foam? i have seen some foam type stuff called "GREAT STUFF", but my dad said it would eat it up. i need help, i have some eggs to put in the bator and my good bator is already going to be full by wednesday.

ETA: i thought of weatherstripping or something but the side would still be exposed in 2 small spots.

OH! great idea, i think we might have a cooler somewhere that i could use to PATCH it?

do you think the tape would hold?

i have never built an incubator before and dont think i have enough time to do.

You probably can't buy a replacement bottom. Duct tape would work to seal up a narrow crack but would be a hassle if you are hand turning or need to add water frequently. Having a little more ventilation really isn't a big deal so long as you can maintain the humidity. I actually punched some more holes in the sides of my hovabator and sometimes even during hatch have them all open but my lg has humidity issues normally so usually I'm trying to seal it up better and add every bit of water I can.

Yes, you can buy a whole incubator in pieces if you need to.

I would just put tape over it, or get the weatherstripping, stuff the holes, then tape it...but that's just me

Here's a link to a bunch of "foam safe" glues. Most of these are CA (CyanoAcrylate) glues......"super glue" in regular language. Be aware that just any ol' kind of super glue will melt foam in a heart beat. Even with the foam safe variety I would still check it by applying a small amount to a non-critical spot. If you still have some of the bits and pieces of the bottom of the incubator you could even glue them back in place....you wouldn't believe how well this works on "destroyed" foamie radio controlled airplanes.

The "medium" thickness glue would work well.

CA glue at Tower Hobbies.

Oh yeah...it'll definitely glue anything to anything...be careful, this isn't the Dollar Store variety of glue!!!!

The problem is that the cheapest that I see is $8 (Great Planes, which I've used many times) plus shipping...the "activator" isn't a bad idea but isn't a necessity, either. So, with $8 plus another $5 shipping you're up to $13....how much is a new bottom for the incubator????

Best wishes,
Ed
