How To Get Chickens To Stop Pecking Another Chicken?

ChickenLady14. If it is just the RIR that is the problem, start with her. separate her from the rest of the flock. Any chickens with wounds need to be separated until their wounds are healed. Try coating the wounds with a product called BlueKote. The RIR will either need her beak trimmed or pinless peepers. You could put Vicks on all of the girls that the RIR is picking on, but if the bullying continues to the point of blood shed, I'd re-home her if I were you.

You have an ornery hen. Chickens can just be mean to one another but not to the extent you describe. Its all part of their pecking order but you would think once that is settled they would get along better. If you are able to easily catch the hurt hens, I would apply Vicks to the areas being pecked. The Vicks will act as a healing agent as well. Vetricyn is another healer found at TSC, but for cost and effectiveness plus stopping pecking, try the Vicks. If the severe attacks do not stop, then you are not doing any favors to any of them and the culprit will have to be dispatched. Sorry.

I have 16 Chickens, Never tried the Vicks. I will go buy some tonight. A few of my chickens are pecked raw on their backs. :( I feel so bad for them. I will see how it works!!!

I've got 4 ducklings that I recently moved outside & my two adults were picking on them. I seperated them right away when I noticed but didn't have a clue on what I should do to stop that behavior. The origional coop I've had since I was young, needs some updating (the one that the two adult ducks are in) so I put the adults in the new coop with the ducklings. I built a big enough coop planning to put everyone together, so I want them all to get along. The Vicks thing is really good info to know about after seeing the adults pick on the little ones! I've also got another duckling that was from a later hatch & worried about him/her once it's old enough to be moved out with everyone else too. I'll definately be trying this trick out!! Thanks!

Vicks did not work on my girls. I now have three of them that are missing feathers, it's so sad. One of them is wearing a hen saddle. I have been spraying Blue Kote on them every day just to hide the redness from the others. I recently purchased Net-Tex Anti Pecking Spray from Amazon. Hoping that this will do the trick.

I blue-coated until my white chicken was purple from head to toe :) The local guys down at the feed store told me there was NO WAY I was going save my girl, that she had already become bottom-of-the-pecking-order, and that I should take her up for auction to gaive her a chance.
Ha!
Second time they were wrong :)
She looked ridiculous for a few weeks, but all her feathers have grown back, no one bothers her at all anymore, and she's bright and poofy and happy again.
Don't give up!
