HOW TO GET RID OF HAWKS/OWLS

You can call the Wildlife Services Agency and see bout obtaining a WS-37 depredation permit (kill permit.. and yes they do issue them but the Fish and Wildlife Service doesn't want it known). Otherwise your only option is deterrents (waste of time in my opinion). Or the 3 S rule. Lost my best fighting rooster Sunday and I know he went down spurring to save hens.

Although not a common occurrence, redtails will indeed attack small dogs. Several years ago we had a dachshund owner who belonged to our beagle club. One day while she was training her mini dachshund a redtail attacked and tried to kill her dog while she was present. This was during a severe drought and natural prey was at a minimum.

... The owl is my main concern just because I know it has a nest in the yard.

... They've got 5 acres of woods to roam in, I'm sure they can find some cover there.
I have been told that nesting owls as well as hawks hate the sounds of a chain saw.

Many species of hawks hunt in heavily wooded areas and they can zig and zag through the forest like a dragonfly weaves between cat tails. Most of us just never see the forest (the evidence of a hawk kill) for the trees.

illegal to shoot to kill them. Can't kill snakes - ie copperheads around here. That is illegal, also.

There would be a revolution if anyone tried to pass a law outlawing the killing of snakes here (S. TX)!

Copperheads, coral snakes and rattlers are all common and commonly shot. Animal control and law enforcement *expect* you to shot nuisance animals like snakes, pigs, raccoons, feral dogs and cats and skunks yourself. They will only come out to deal with rabid animals.

I like Missouri better. People here are too tough to be scared of snakes ands such.
