Please advise! They're crawling around in there and I don't know what to DO.

Don’t you have SWAT from your other hen? That has permethrin I believe. Permethrin garden dust and spray are also very good for mites or lice. Pictures may help. Mites should be treated at least evey 7 days, at least 2-3 times to get them and newly hatched eggs. The coop needs to be treated as well after emptying bedding.

If using permethrin dust or spray, make sure to treat all the birds all the way to the skin. Get it on their backs, under belly, under wings, around the vent. If they have some on their heads carefully pat some around base of comb and on the neck. You'll need to re-treat somewhere between 5 to 10 days, depending on the mite and the severity of infestation.

Do a full clean out of the coop and spray crevices, nest boxes, the entire roost bar.

UPDATE: Popcorn didn't make it. She passed away today around 9 PM. Thank you for advising regarding the other hens! I will make sure to do a thorough cleanse of both their coop and them. No pictures, unfortunately. I'm heavy with grief. But they were yellowish in color (almost that of maggots) and very tiny, slimy creatures. Are they mites or lice? I would love to know in case they sprout up again. Lesson learned. Check them constantly for parasites. RIP Popcorn. You will be missed.

So do not apply this product directly to vent?

:( Sorry about the loss. But it doesn't sound like mites, which would be super tiny black or red pindots. Are you sure they weren't tiny maggots? Did you happen to get a photo of the infestation (might be tough if they're super tiny).

I didn't. We had managed to clear the infestation from her body with the wood ashes (and before than I was in go, go mode! trying to do everything and anything to save her so a picture was the last thing on my mind). My husband and I had given her a bath prior to splashing her with the ashes so maybe that's what did her in. I've learned that chickens cannot do well wet. My heart is heavy but I still have four other beautiful ladies that need me so onward! we must go. Thank you for your condolences Rose Mary. May you have a bright and beautiful weekend.

I do want to know though. I got this shot of the area below her vent several hours before she passed. Why the faded discoloration on her skin? Why the dots? Is this from the inside out? Can anyone surmise? Details please. I really want to prevent this from manifesting itself the way it did on her at all costs. @rosemarythyme @sloanbychoice @Eggcessive
