How to Get Rid of Possums?

Hi everyone! I'm Elvira and I have a big problem with the possums on my roof. Do you know which is the most humanely way to get rid of them? Do possum boxes work well? Here are the other questions about my problem with these pests - http://www.unleashed.org.au/community/forum/topic.php?t=10556. I want to get rid of them immediately because me and my family have had scurrying feet noises of possums coming from the walls and ceilings every night. Thank you in advance for your help!

They aren't as smart as raccoons so are much easier to trap. They are the clean up crew in the forest so almost anything edible works as bait. Hav-a- hart type traps as well as dog proof leg traps work. Also snares.

After you catch them, the most humane is probably a pistol shot. If you don't have a gun or can't shoot where you live, then a trashcan full of water to drop the trap into is what our dept. of conservation recommends.

I read the link and see that you cannot kill or trap and release the possums without a license in AU because they are protected.
If this is the case I do not see anything you could do other that hire someone.
Otherwise I agree with ChickenCanoe 100%

Sorry. I didn't realize you were in AU. They're more like vermin here and in no danger of extinction..

for there to be that many around, you may need to investigate why are they there?

water or food source? eliminate those things for them.

if it's just shelter, one thing many folks on this side of the pond do, is to create an environment where the critter doesn't want to be. Loud music, bright lights or something similar, will run them out. Once you are sure they are all out, then take corrective action to keep them out.

Hi everyone. Thank you for the smart suggestions. I've tried to catch the possums by myself but tp be honest it was a disaster. Finally I've hired a company that a friend of my husband recommended to me http://www.fantasticpestcontrolmelbourne.com.au
Now in my house there is no even a trace of possums.
