I think maybe he's trying to get it past the glottis (opening to the trachea), or maybe touching of the bill causes their glottis to close? Me, I just stick the pill in and push it back with my finger.

Thank you so much my mom made us leave today shes ignorant saying my duck has a disease and her dogs are going to die whike were in thr back room by ourselves!

This is the best thread I’ve read on how to administer pills to ducks. Thank you so much for all of the information! I have found that sliding the pill across the roof of the beak is helpful as it keeps the tongue from “getting involved”. I kneel behind her with her between my legs to prevent her from backing up as though she’s a cat. Honestly, the hardest part has been catching the patient! Anyways, thanks again. This would be a great thread to be “stickied”!
