Here is how to give a duck a pill:
Here is how to give a chicken a pill
Why rub across inside bill? and seems my fingers would be too large to get down far enough to get a pill inside the right hole. Just thinking out loud
I think maybe he's trying to get it past the glottis (opening to the trachea), or maybe touching of the bill causes their glottis to close? Me, I just stick the pill in and push it back with my finger.
I added a picture to post #1
I see now I could do it with my fingers but still don't understand sliding the pill across the inside upper bill?
I think I recently read that touching something in the mouth causes them to close the glottis, so that's the only thing I can think of.
Makes sense, what ever works!
This is good!!! I would make an article of this, but you could look up some pics of like a diagram or something of a ducks mouth so people know what they are putting the pill into.
I've found that hiding pills in small banana chunks or raspberries usually does the trick. My girls go insane over both fruits, so it's just a matter of separating the sick/injured duck from the others to make sure I know the right one gets the medicated treat.
