i was looking at the weather report for tomorrow and with the big ass storm headed our way, the possibility of power outages due to snow was mentioned.

i realized i have no idea what id do with my chicks if the power went out. i mean if it was an hour or two you could just like cuddle them or something. but it was a worrying thought, their only three days old, they'd never last even a few hours without heat let alone a whole day.

my best thought was those hot hands hand warmers, wrapped in a towel or something?

how would you guys handle power outages both short term and long term?

I used a hot hands body warmer for one of my chicks once when I had to separate her from her brothers the day she hatched. In the morning I found her under the fleece blanket stretched out directly on top of the hot pack. It was so adorable! :love

The next day I got her her own heat source, but I kept extra hot hands warmers around in case I needed them again. I think it worked good for her. The good ones usually stay hot about 12 hours.

Maybe keep some warm rocks or fire bricks on hand, just in case. I have a wood stove, so I can just set them on the stove to heat. I don't know what your heat source will be without power, but if they are warm and ready to go before you lose power, it could buy you some time.
