Just hold Chuck LOTS, it's great if he'll sleep in your pockets, shoulder, lap, etc. Our house chicken Taco Belle, slept for a few years right on my son's pillow with him. She has also slept in an open top drawer of a chest as well as a bathtub that we topped off with a window screen tee pee.
Right now her home is a large clear plastic crate, long and rectangular. She's about 6 feet away from me. She had recently taken to sleeping on my puffy ergonomic wrist saver right here next to my keyboard but I re-established authority over that domaine recently.
House chickens are great and once they really get to know their outdoor buddies reintroductions everyday are uneventful, it's like "oh your back!".
I haven't yet had a problem with any of my three dogs, just go slow.
