How to keep chicks from roosting on the waterer?

augh. She was roosting right on top of the darn milk jug. I guess I'll have to find something skinnier on the top. I think she's afraid to get on the roost because there was plenty of room up there.

I took a top off a cat litter pail, cut a hole in the dead-center, strung a rope through the hole and hung it directly over the waterer so it is just touching the top. It tilts when they try to sit on it but swings out of the way when I fill the waterer.

I found some packaging from something (that I saved apparently for this very reason) that was a large sheet of stiff plastic. I cut it into a circle, cut a slit to the center and formed it into a cone with a pretty sharp tip, then stapled and taped it up. Then I taped it to the top of the milk jug. Tonight no one was on it and one little pullet was on the floor of the coop by herself. So now I guess I need to make a ramp or ladder or something. There was at least 15" of space on the roost.
