How to keep chicks from sleeping in the nesting boxes

Ok, I've blocked them off. I also added a roost a bit away from the big girls in case they're being picked on. I'm not sure if they can jump up there or not but if not I'll add a ladder.

Well, I went to check and they decided to snuggle together... right under where the big girls poop.
I picked them up, 2 at a time, and put them on the roost. Fingers crossed they stay put. I'll go check in a bit and, hopefully, remove the boards covering the boxes.

Alright, they were still on the roost. I went in with a small light to kind of peek and only saw 1 on the roost I put them on. I could hear then but couldnt find them. Looked up at the big girls and they were squished up there with them I'm pretty shocked the big girls allowed it but I removed the boards and they stayed put. Hopefully this will teach them to sleep up there on their own now.

Have had that happen! Kinda shocked me the first time it happened.

Might take a few nights of blocking the nests.

To the left and right. Yes, under the roost.

And yes, those are golf balls. I put them in the boxes but when the babies played in there they threw them out. I put them back after I took the picture.

Yes, they need it. I just havent gotten around to adding it. Should have taken advantage of the cooler weather last week because we're over 100 again now.

Our cool streak just ended....I didn't do as much as I probably should have either, other than just enjoy the weather.

Alrights, night 3. I didnt block the boxes because I wanted to see what would happen. All of the youngins were on the roost with the big girls!! Super proud chicken mama right now
