Sorry for your loss. Good that you are going with the 7ft. fencing. However, I'd run a line of electric around the top - dogs aren't the only pred.

Just a reminder to all chooksters who have the misfortune to come upon a dog attack with no firearm allowed/handy. Report that one gives to all agencies: `Dog threatened humans" it is not a lie (hey, otherwise we'd just pull the dogs off the chooks, right?). In every State dogs attacking poultry Statutes vary (small claims only - to shoot on sight), however, in all States (check with Sonoran Silkies she keeps up on this stuff) I think it is legal to shoot dogs threatening humans and, if one is not allowed to shoot them, the legal options/opportunities available when the reports read `threatening/attacking human' as opposed to `threatening/attacking chickens' are immense. Just an FYI.

A GP won't get over a seven foot fence unless there is something on their side to boost up on. They are however, EXTREMELY good diggers. If it were me, I'd run a concrete collar under the privacy fence. Now that I think of it though, there's about a three foot deep hole out in my pasture so I don't know if the collar would even work.... I've got barbed wire around the top and bottom of my 4x4 square sheep and goat fence. Works to keep preds out and dogs in.

We live in town, the dogs had no collars nor rabies tags, it was simply that at the time I couldnt wrap around shooting them in front of the kids, it was very quick and once they were all dead it didnt cross my mind as I had already called animal control, that wont be a problem next time, fine me for defending my kids, I dare them.
The police wouldn't come out, only if the dog couldnt be caught by animal control would they do so. We did call. Thank you everyone, we are going to go with a 7 ft wooden fence next weekend and keep them all inside in the meantime, I am pretty sure the neighbors watched though so those dogs may end up miles away if they are adopted by someone else. *crosses fingers
For the coop we were thinking of doing a welded wire kennel and putting it inside and cattle panels on top, that would keep out even the most determined right? I was going to do a concrete block foundation around the perimeter as it seems mean to keep them on concrete to keep them safe

The welded wire and cow panels might keep out the dogs, but those are big holes in the wire that won't keep out other predators. I would go over the wire with hardware cloth. Oh, and shoot the dogs. Any animal that was agressive toward children, especially in their own yard, does not deserve to live.

A boxer can get over a 7 ft fence if they want over bad enough. Least mine can. He has a lot of boing boing in him like a cat. He can also jump in the back of a 4x4 truck with the tail gate up. He's getting older and doens't have as much boing in his boing boing anymore.

I would go talk to the dog owners, if they care about their dogs they might kennel them when they can't supervise them. If animal control took the dogs they might already be facing a fine to get them back. I'm sure they won't want to pay a fine again and might do something on their side to control their dogs.

I had the neighbors dogs kill some 4-H lambs it was a bloody mess one was dead, one was alive and had to be put down, and one made it was horribly scared. I called him to come get the dogs out of my barn. He shot his own dogs and put down the lamb for me. He said that was the hardest thing he's ever done. This was 15 yrs ago and I still wake up every morning with a bit of anxiety about what I might find going out to feed.

I'm very sorry you had to experience that.
