I was adding water into my LG last night and accidentally poured it on top of the combo thermometer/hydrogmeter in there.

Now it says that the temp in the LG is 73 and the humidity is 3. Death Valley.

So off to Walmart to get a new one.

I got a nice wireless hygro/thermometer from lowes for $25. They had cheaper but they sold out

I'm happy with the one I got. Only bad thing is between the sending unit and the base station it uses 5 AA batteries. lol
Good Luck and God Bless!

Gosh, yes, the one in Walmart is $8. I just hope it is accurate. The old one I had was. I probably should get two or three...and compare them...

Hi Catherine,
I have a link to a site that shows you how to calibrate your hygrometer.
It's at the bottom in my signature

Oh, wow! It is full of Heritage RIR eggs from Taterschickens. I am all excited about them. I am going to candle everything tomorrow, day 10, and see how they look.

I have three Wheaten Americana hens who lay really pretty blue eggs, but they are a little young, the eggs are still a little small, and although I have some matching Wheaten roosters, who is to say that they were only with them? I also have a Welsummer rooster in there, and some energetic banties. So you never know.

But later on, when I segregate them from the others, I'll let you know and if you want some I will be happy to send them out. I have no idea how well they are going to do at laying, just that the eggs are really pretty.

I sell eggs, and I like to have some nice dark, brown eggs and some green and blue eggs, just to make the egg carton look pretty.

I confess that I couldn't resist putting two of those blue eggs in there with the RIR eggs, but they may well be mutts. They might not, though, because those Americana roosters are really aggressive. In fact, too much so, as they pester those poor quiet little hens way too much.

My NEW thermometer, which I got from Walmart, acurite is the name brand, seemed to have pretty good temp, but the humidity was REALLY off.

It was about 50 percentage points low.

For me, and I know this isn't true for all, the thing that has made the biggest difference between a good hatch and a dead in the shell hatch, is monitoring the humidity really closely.

So I called the company, and I am happy to say that they agreed to send out a new one right away, without even asking for the old one back!

I told them, that I would tell all 36,000 people on the BTC forum how nice and honest they were--so here it is!

I have had good luck with them in the past, of course until I dumped water on it, so hopefully this is just a glitch and the new one will be good.

I got 2 Springfield Digital Thermo/Hygro from walmart for $7 plus $2+ for shipping so I didn't have to drive 25 minutes to a store. They both worked for a few hatches last fall. This year I got my first batch in and they keep calibrating differently so I'm just guessing now. I add water every other day, but don't put much in. I'll be buying new ones after this hatch
