How does one evaluate the ventilation in the coop? I’m aware of the 1 square foot minimum of vent/window per bird rule, but what about a funky layout? I have a staggered, two-story coop and really don’t know how to assess whether it’s venting properly. I tend to shut it down more when we get winter storms (which are mild here in California), but this reduces ventilation. Just thinking ahead for this next winter. Thoughts?

It's more 'art' than science....use your nose and eyes...especially with a funky configuration.

Make as much ventilation as you can, but make it weather proofed and/or adjustable to close some down during winter and/or storms, so inside of coop doesn't get wet and birds aren't a strong direct draft when roosting.

If you can't get inside coop and close doors during high winds it's pretty hard to actually assess air movement/flow.
