How To Pick Up A Duck? Video Anyone?

That's too cute, I want to kiss my baby like that so bad but think she'll want to sample my lip!...I try to sneak a kiss on her neck when she's sleeping when I can sneak up on her!...

This is how I had to pick up the crabby ones... (look at his claws...NOT trying to mess with those when he was in a MOOD!)

That's how the lady I got my first ducks from handled her ducks.

I just do the wing grab like TerrieLacy or use the nettie towel wrap.

I don't need to pick up my ducks often (and the prefer I didn't

) but I think there is more risk of injury if I am grabbing their wings.

I always worried about it to begin with, mosly because they were so FAT and i didnt wanna pull a muscle or something worse. They usually calmed down after a few seconds and just hung there. My auction flock of 'Scovy boys all were kind of snotty since they just figured out how to 'do it'.

the one has to wear shoes all of the time, due to reoccurring bumblefoot infections... her feet are susceptible to more infections if she cuts them, so she wears shoes all the time to prevent more problems...

I was always told that grabbing by the wings was a bad idea, too much risk for injury. Even if I could find out for a fact that that was true, that they can be safely handled by the wings, I don't know if I could emotionally accept it...saw too many broken wings come in to the place I worked as a wildlife rehabillitator. We were always taught to pick up ducks and geese by supporting them with one arm holding the legs tight against the body and around that body, and the other hand supporting and controlling the head and neck. And believe me, holding onto a wild Canadian honker is no easy feat! For this reason, it really wigged me out seeing how some judges handle people's ducks at a show when I saw the runners getting judged in the ring...no way would I want someone running my duck down and then slinging him over the fence by his wings. I felt they were getting handled more like luggage being unloaded on the tarmac than living creatures!
