I am getting ready to go to lockdown on Thursday and have a couple of questions:
I have heard some say that they remove the eggs from the turner and place them on "something" other than the bottom of the incubator. Anyone have any suggestions as to what they use? How it looks?

Also, is there a specific way to"lay" the eggs? I will candle today and want to know if I should be looking for something in the egg to mark a spot that should go up/down when the egg is ready for lockdown.

I also use shelf lining. I like that better because I don't like the idea of the chicks' feet sitting on the grate afterwards. It also makes for easier clean up. I incubate in an egg carton and when I get to lock down, I take them all out of the carton and lay them on their sides. I make sure that the lowest part of the air cell is upwards. Mostly because the lowest point of the air cell is where the chick SHOULD pip, and I like to be able to monitor pips.

This is great information. Thank you. I will definitely use the shelf lining. It sounds perfect and the lowest point on the air cell up!
