This toe eventually did slough off. Bone and all snapped off. At this point. Then more healing and closing of the wound after the self amputation. Process took care of itself basically. We did bandage the healing stump during the 'open phase' as it was spring and mud season around here. So a cleaning basically every day and bandage. But it healed well. A loss nonetheless.
It was a rough first winter for this NH rooster. Rookie chicken keeper learned to lower the roost and no hot/warm moist meals on cold days.
