My 3 RIR chicks are only 7 weeks old so they still have a ways to go before they start laying but I'm trying to figure out how much to sell my eggs for. I already have people asking me how much I'm going to charge so I thought I'd start looking it up. I went to Sprouts to see how much they were selling eggs for. They were selling eggs from $1.49 all the way up to $5. I'm thinking about selling mine for $3 for a dozen and $2 for half a dozen. Does that seem fair? I was reading online that it seems to be based on local prices. I'm going to check my local grocery store this weekend as well to see what they sell eggs for.

Also, how much liability am I under if someone somehow gets sick from my eggs? My chickens are healthy (as far as I know) so God forbid someone gets sick but just curious.

People around where I live sell them for 18pk for $3.50-5, some are selling $3/dozen. My question is, are they having any success with selling the eggs?

In my county, the health department requires that the coop and egg facilities be inspected in order to sell to the public, even farmers markets.

For a little less liability just be upfront about your concerns and label them not for human consumption, that is how all the eggs are labeled and sold at swap meets around here...

As for selling check your state and local municipal laws, rules, regulations and what not vary all over the place... In unincorporated IL as long as they are sold on the premises in small volumes there is really no regulation, but almost every community around me that has allowed backyard chickens flat out outlaws the selling of eggs, meat chickens and also outlaws slaughtering...

As for price, decide what the market will sustain and what you will accept... Prices around me range from $2 - $10 a dozen, I sell mine for $5 as I don't want to be troubled dealing with people for anything less...
