Hello everybody. I have had some issues with my chickens lately, and I'm wondering how to properly clean to prevent further issues. I just had a battle with coccidias in chick and just yesterday I had a chicken come down with the wheezing and the gasping for air so I'm assuming it is Gap worms. She unfortunately did not make it through today and my chicks are doing better thanks to corid but what do I need to do to prevent further things happening . What do I need to clean my coop in my yard ? I keep the coop clean but apparently I'm not doing a good enough job lol.... please help

How old are your chicks?
It's impossible to get rid of coccidia in the environment, it's very persistent. You can reduce the risk by keeping things as clean and dry as you reasonably can (warm, wet conditions are prime for a break out which is why brooders are often struck), keep feeders and waterers as clean as you can and free of droppings, keep droppings from building up. Once birds are exposed and recover they generally don't get sick again from the coccidia strains they've been exposed to unless a new strain is brought it or their immune systems are compromised by something else. Gape worm is fairly rare, and not very likely in chicks, so it's more likely that it was something else. Depending on the age of your chicks, they can gasp when they are very sick and close to dying, and it's just a symptom of that, it may have been related to the coccidiosis. Without a necropsy it's very hard to say.

The chicks were 2 weeks old when it started but they are better now . I've disinfected everything they have come in contact with with ammonia. I got nervous because those chicks were in with a hen and her chicks but they never got sick. I think I separated them all right in time! Now the chicken that died was about 1 years old and she was fine till yesterday when I noticed she was wheezing, gasping for air and stretching her neck out . I had to work this morning and when I got home she was dead. None of my other chickens seem sick but after having cocci around I'm just paranoid!
