If your cockerel is the same age as your pullets (hens under a year old), you may need to keep an eye on him as he reaches sexual maturity. He may reach that before they do, and it can be a pain in the neck for everyone. He'll be full of raging hormones, and the only thing he'll have on his mind is breeding, breeding and more breeding. The pullets won't know what's going on because they're not there yet. Some cockerels will mind their manners some, but others can get ugly. If need be, you could separate him until the pullets are of laying age and are more receptive.
