Every day Jax goes out to check on the chickens with me and even though he's been good so far, he gets verbal reminders that "Chickens are our friends! We don't eat chickens!"

So last night I made hot wings and decided to put up the puppy gate across the kitchen doorway and give Jax a raw chicken wing to munch on.

He carried it around for the longest time with a puzzled look on his face. Didn't try to eat it.

I finally said, What's wrong with you silly dog! Eat your chicken!

He gave me the strangest look before finally deciding it was okay.

Heck, he'd get the whole bird if I could afford it. He gets whatever meat we can afford each week, in addition to his kibble, his eggs, his yogurt, his salmon oil.....spoiled rotten mutt.

Mine is not confused.
Food comes from the REFRIGERATOR --- DUH!!!!!!!!

She even had my last butchered rooster's head, "intact" and that really grossed DH out, but she still doesn't seem to equate live birds with refrigerated food!

I once gave Nacho a shrimp and he too walked around the house looking confused, like "what do you want me to do with this?" until the cat saw him LOL... and well that was the end of Nacho.. he went scurrying away and watched Accio from a very far distance (behind the sofa, the OMG IM TERRIFIED place) while Accio growled at everything (even things that didn't move) over his piece of shrimp, hehe.

I can tell you, Miniature Labradoodles are rather daft...

My cat on the other hand.. he knows where the food comes from and he can open the fridge door. Once I found him sitting in the vegetable crisper.

Jax is mainly focused on words. If we tell him, "food" "breakfast" "cookie" or "supper", he'll eat it. Otherwise it just confuses him. Chickens come from the big blue building out back, not from the frig.
