How to Safely Catch and Treat and/or Medicate Peafowl

I have read online that when people worm there birds sometimes some of the birds are effected in a bad way because the worms dont pass thru and they don't absorb in the body as protein...im not sure some people thought that is was coicidis lol not sure the spelling...but I didn't see any intestinal sheddings or blood...even in the poop in the morning it went from liquid to not liquid so I new that it passed thru at that point...I think the cold just got ahold of her and shut her system down...she is going to town right now in the dog pen...just scratching away....clucking saying let me out...once I got her body temp warm and that first 25ml down thru tube....she still was not acting right...and then two hours later I did the same...this is what I used for the mix...she still was not acting right but in the morning she was trying to just right out of the box...that I had next to the fireplace....then I took her out and put her in the dog kennel and put in some straw...and she just started to eat and drink...I did put sugar solution with vitamins and .5cc corid...and will leave her in the house for a week....and rethink about putting her outside....

two cups water....tablespoon of sugar....pinch of electrolytes/vitamins....little bit of corn syrup...and alittle bit of molasses....mixed it up...making sure the water was warm to touch....and brought up 25 ml of fluid the first time....the second time I did the same....except when I drew up the 25ml of solution....I added at the end .5cc of corid.....ofcourse each time I made new solution...I did use a 1/.4inch aquarium line...that I made the edge of the tube that would be going down here throat rounded.....with a lighter...I put it in my mouth to see if it was sharp to the roof of my mouth to make sure she wouldn't get hurt....

there is a point when you do this that the chicken will open the jaw wider allowing you to do this process if the bird doesn't do this then don't try and they will squirm around not letting you....she first wouldn't let me even open her mouth....but when I put alittle warm water in her mouth she knew what I was doing at that point and just took the tube...make sure to fully extend the neck and not to pinch the front part of the neck...
this has been a great learning experience...
thanks everyone so much...

well I wormed the peafowl today...and lets say that it was a blast,... and I smell like super poo...the laundry mat will love me....
so I used the net I showed before....which is the smaller one....I would stick with the smaller one just based on todays fun time...because the bird will have an easier chance on jumping out of the net....so this is what I did...some I was able to put the net on and they just layed down and I picked them up...the others not so much...so I slowly got them into a corner and put one in the net and let it do its typical bird roll in the net and I quickly put the next to my right side and with my right hand put it under the bird in the net and lifted the bird out of the net keeping it close to my right side of my body about waist high...some birds will push and pull and try and get there wings out from you just be easy with them and make sure they don't ....if they do then just with the left hand put the wing back to its body and cover the wing back up with your hand and body....then the handler can hold the lower part of the beak while the medicator holds the top of the beak and puts in the wormer....I used 1cc per bird....they were 2014 hatch...it was a bit over the dose but from what I have read thru Kathy adult male should get alittle over a 1cc anyways so the females got 3/4 cc and all the white ones got 1cc...cause I don't know their sex yet...anyways here is some pics...once you do this to one of your birds...most of the birds will do their frantic poo before you catch them...out of ten I only had one poo on me...and that was the first one....so I smell great...well here are some pics
hope this helps

if you do have some that are not cooperating it will be difficult to hold on to just be calm and the slower you move and the medicator moves the better off the birds are...also wear yourself a nice set of carhart overhauls and a good pair of thick gloves...fingerless works the best ...I used fingerless gloves and they worked great....well I shall see you in ten days....you can see when I took the picture that the bird held his own mouth open on the bottom part....which I would be holding on to....this was our last bird to get done..otherwise doing this and taking pictures is not an easy task

Way to go, now come help do mine!!!
I have fingernails so I can hold and pry beak open but have to have second person to dose. I can dose my chickens, well except my huge orps, and Cochin, but the peas it really takes two for me.

I caught all 6 of my juvenile peafowl this morning!!! Their curiosity worked in my favor! We have a small little outbuilding that we usually keep closed. The birds have never been inside. I opened the door wide and pretty soon all 6 peafowl were inside checking it out. I snuck up from behind the door so they didn't see me coming and slammed the door shut! They didn't even squawk.....no trauma or stress for the birds. I had thought about using recorded peacock calls from the internet to entice them into the garage if this hadn't worked. I also read about feeding them bread soaked in vodka to get them drunk. I'm glad it never got to that! lol

400
does anybody have any idea what this is he's had it for a couple months and I've been treating him even brought him to the vet but he's still sick he still acts normal and eats the same amount of food as the others so I really wanna tackle this now

Pretty sure you do not want to give your Peas vodka.
