The Skyes were speechless at this new 'development', per se, and couldn't manage any words.

When Thetis came back to school that day, she was looking worse than ever.
"What happened?" Skye 1 asked.
"I threatened to run away. My father threatened to kill me. He didn't, of course, but he came close. Mum drove away while father was sleeping, I haven't heard from her. Brédan and I woke up before father, so we drove to the park, and brought some tinned food. Brédan will be staying at his friend's house for a while. Actually, I was hoping I could stay with you for a bit. I don't mind if you say no. Father will come looking for me, I'm sure of that." Thetis explained.
"Oh, that's so sad Thetis. I'll have to ask my mum and dad first, but you should be able to live with us a while." Skye 1 said.
"Thankyou!" Thetis said.

Skye 1 stared out of the window, then realized how sick she felt. So she went up to the teacher and asked if she might be able to call home because she felt extremely sick, and added a little part about a headache for good measure. The teacher nodded and went back to boring the remaining kids.

Skye 1 called Thetis's mobile as soon as she got home.
"My parents said it was okay, you're coming to live with me!" Skye announced.
"Thankyou so much!" Thetis said.
"Your welcome. Where are you? we'll come pick you up."
"I'm at the park."
"Okay. See you there!"

The two Skyes talked quietly together at the playground after school.
"So, Friday night?" Skye 1 asked.
"Yup. Dairy Queen, 6:15. I'll be waiting." Skye 2 brushed a lock of hair out of the other Skye's eyes.
"Okay. See you!" Skye 1 waved a goodbye, backpack bouncing as she trotted off toward the bus. Her red uniform skirt flung upwards and Skye 2 could see the revealed beige shorts underneath.
"Goodbye," he whispered in return, suddenly having lost his happiness. An icy finger of dread curled around his heart. It would never go away.

Skye 1 waved goodbye to her parents and walked into Dairy Queen as they drove away. She looked around for Skye 2, didn't see him, and seated herself at a table. She guessed he was either late or in the restroom.
After five minutes she pulled a book out from her bag. After fifteen she began to worry. She waited another 15 minutes, until it had been half an hour, and took out her cell phone to call her parents.
"Hey... mom?"
"Hi, honey! What's up?"
"He didn't come."
"What do you mean? He didn't show up?"
"No... I've been waiting here for thirty minutes. There's no sign of him."
"That's strange. Maybe he's sick. Anyway, I'll call his house. Your dad's on the way to pick you up."
"Okay... Thanks, Mom."
"I love you. Bye-bye, Skye."
"Bye."
There was a soft click as Skye pressed the 'END' button on the mobile phone. She walked up to the counter and ordered a Mint Oreo Mini Blizzard. Now there was nothing to do but wait for her dad to get here.
