How to save money on your electric bill?

Yikes, thats a high bill. Hope you can find the leak. Are neighbors close enough to steal electricity? That happened to a friend of mine, neighbors hooked up to them. Our meter readers use a digital thing here, never have to get out of truck, but it didn't require getting new meters. We have a well pump with 5 houses on it. It has its own meter, during the summer the bill will get up to $80 when everyone is watering the gardens and playing in sprinklers, and during the winter it will be around $30. Occasionally I will have everyone not use water and see if the pump still turns on to check for leaks. Thats only if the bill seems to be getting too high. Good luck!

The periodic speeding up and slowing down of the spinning disk is commonly a sign that you have a device that is turning on and turning off, a device that draws a lot of power.

And like others have said, you read those analog meters just like you read a sequence of clocks. You don't need to sit there and observe anything. It's like if I asked what the time was, and you glanced at your watch and told me 08:42, I wouldn't ask you to watch the time to make sure you were right.

But yes, let's see what the electric company has to say. It will be great once this gets figured out.

Are you sure there is not a leak in your water pipes also? That would make your well pump run constantly and run up the bill......

My power bill went up by 300.00 one month due to the bladder in the water pump going out. It kept kicking on.

When we had an electric hot water heater, after everyone took their showers at night we would turn it off. If needed in the morning the first one op would turn it on. Then leave it off all day if everyone was away then turn it on in time to heat up for dishes and bath. I think now days you can get a timer to do that for you. We are planning on installing a tank less gas hot water heater.

Do you use a space heater? Running one of those all day and/or night for a month creates a huge electric bill. I know cuz I did it once.

* If they HAVE been estimating they may actually owe you money, steuie, don't forget that-- be ready to demand an audit back to the last non-estimated bill. DON'T just settle for a reduction next month!!! After the hurricanes, the company here estimated nearly everyone's pwr. for the next 4 mths or so. They did such a bad job of it that they over-charged into the millions. The PUC told them they had to credit that money-- but instead of figuring exactly what they had o/c each household, they whined about what it would cost for real accounting and what the storms had cost them & got permission to single credit everyone $35.. So, they were barely penalized at all. Then, in the next year alone they raised our bills twice.

changing out the light bulbs alone with energy efficient ones is a good route to go on cutting down on the bill.
a guy in town was busted when some one noticed their bill, he had grow lamps for marijuana and a meth lab.

I found your answer right away space heaters! I saw you had one it will cost a fortune to run there is your problem my DD's bill is over 300 a month using one for her room at her apt.
