How to say Chicken in other languages

Interesting thread!

Chicken in Afrikaans is "Hoender" and in Xhosa "Inkuku"

Chicken in Ilocano (a language from northern provinces of the Philippines) is Manok.
Rooster is Kawitan.
Hen is Pamusian.

Manok is also the term in Tagalog (Filipino), but rooster is Tandang or katyaw and hen is Inahin.

The term used to describe baby chickens in the early 40's and sometimes today by older generations and generations derived from them is "bitties"

modern poultry owners will refer to baby chicks as "puffballs", "baby chicks/ens" , "little bits" and "cockerels/pullets/strait-runs".

I didn't notice french and since I took it in high school & college I fee compelled to add it.
POULET (the et makes an "ay" sound, the t is silent)

I think when I get my hen house painted, it will be called Chez Poulet unless something else better comes along (nothing else has and I'm not looking but sometimes, things happen)
