How to sell my eggs!!!

Do you work outside of the home. I sell mine at work. I live in Va. and sell them for 2.50 a carton which I think is very reasonable. They are the freshest eggs they will get.

We got our eggs for a way of "food storage", a way to be self sufficient and have food in case of an emergency....Now the chickens are like pets to us all and we REALLY enjoy them! We have 11 hens...chicken math... LOL and we just wanted to sell the "extra" eggs to help go towards the cost of food....so it's now getting the eggs sold! I do post on facebook and people say it's cool and they "like" it but no one wants to BUY them.....

My eggs are really good! I just put a post on KSL under poultry...lets see what I get from there! I have given so many FREE eggs to people who said they were interested in buying them, to give them a little taste of goodness...I wonder if they are thinking I am just going to give more free eggs!? Eventhough they all know I am selling the extra?? My husbands boss siad he would buy some but my DH keeps "forgetting" to tell him we have some....sheesh....

People are so weird, i offered my neighbor eggs when my hens start laying good and she says oh no, I only use a few eggs a month. I am always looking for fresh eggs, but find it hard, yet some people can not give them away. I love fresh eggs, my kids do and yet can not even find them on craigslist! We live in Montana, eggs should be every where, yet nope hard to come by. I say put an add on craigslist, I'm always looking there lol. I finally had to get my own chickens just to get fresh eggs, now there my little buddies and the eggs are just fun, but my girls are a pleasure.

Hey we did the same thing, we wanted self sufficient living. Did you know you can scramble them and dehydrate them? And you can freeze eggs . Do not be discouraged hon, you have very little to sell, I say dehydrate them!

While some BYCers do not have this issue, the fact is that for many, the saturation point has arrived in lots of areas. 20 years ago, it would been really, really rare to find someone who sold eggs. It had become almost a lost art. Today, with so many keepers of flocks, almost everyone knows someone who has "back yard chickens" with eggs for sale. Every general store, every feed store around here has a sign offering Fresh Farm Eggs.

It would do well for all of us to remember as well is this reality. There are literally thousands of people who will never, ever eat "a chicken egg" eeeewwww!! It grosses them out mentally. They only buy store eggs where they are manufactured by elves in the back room, I suppose.

Cheer up. It is what it is. Enjoy your chickens.

I just wish everyone knew how FUN chickens are and how great they are for you and your yard....we have literally had 5 spiders in the house this year, where before we have had MANY, and earwigs! I hate using bug spray and insecticide with my dogs and a step-daughter with special needs, and the environment in general! LOL! We do have a TON of fun with them and it's a GREAT idea fo freeze dry them...not tell me, can you only freeze scrambled eggs or can you freeze hard boiled in the shell??? I am SO interested in this!

Bugs wants to know too! LOL! My curious chicken!

I also had an egg surplus. With 8 RIRs & just my DH & I, we were having at least 2 dozen extras each week. I put an ad on craigslist, looking for someone who wanted to get 1 - 1 1/2 dozen each week. I was lucky enough to get a call from a caterer who will buy all my extras each week! He only uses backyard eggs in all his cooking & he buys from several backyard chicken owners. While the price is not the greatest, $2/dozen, at least I can get rid of all my extras & have enough to cover chicken feed each month.

HurstsHens, just like you, the folks I was giving them to were glad to get them, but no one wanted to buy them.

That is a good problem to have.

In my neck of the woods (Louisiana), there are chickens on every block, so fresh eggs are no real biggie in my area. It's like bottled water. It's on every shelf. Some people sell their eggs for as low as $1.00 a dozen. Any eggs being sold higher than $2.50 by a seller, probably won't be purchased by customers. Half of our population here has chickens and fresh eggs. And to top it off, our grocery stores will have a sale on eggs and the eggs are as low as $0.50 a dozen. So can you imagine how many people are jumping on those prices. But we chicken owners all know that the best eggs are fresh eggs from your own chickens.

Do you have a co-op store with locally grown food for sale? Or maybe a restaurant that offers local produce in their menu? I would just keep looking until you find a reliable client because those hens aren't going to quit laying anytime soon! Best of Luck!
