You can, but there might be a size limit. What gif are you trying to use?

You might need to go to a gif platform like on iMessage, search a gif, select it and press the save image button, then it’s in your photos. When you click edit profile, try clicking that gif. Have you tried that yet? It could also be because the size is too big

Does it say .gif at the end of the file? Can you do a screenshot of the actual picture?

If it is too big, it will give you a message that says the file size is too large.

Like @PeaDawg said, it must say .gif in order for it to work.

I suspect the file might have a .webp extension

Most likely. Although on my computer, anything .webp is greyed out and not something I can even open- but that is probably different depending on the device
