How To Sex A Chicken - Wisdom From An Old Timer

its a string and a ring... just a pendelum. hold it over a already sexed bird to see if you circle over it or it swings back and forth and then go on to the unsexed birds. I will rund now and check my new pullets and my SG.

So has anyone tested this method?

This is an old time method used for telling the gender of an unborn baby, also, but...it's more a matter of wish fulfillment than actual diagnostics.

As a starving college student, I was a street magician and used to perform this little trick (among others) on people randomly. I would have one of them hold my hand steady so that they could tell I wasn't swinging the pendulum.

What it depends on is the fact that your hand will make these tiny micro movements in response to thought. You are actually making the pendulum swing whether the people holding your hand can feel it or not. The cool part of it is that you are making the pendulum swing whether YOU are aware of it or not.

I've never met anyone who could do it blind folded...at least not in while blind folded in a way they couldn't see. lol

:/Well I tried the dangle method a couple of days ago, now the wait is on, my chicks are about 6 weeks old. I will post a photo, sure hope I have hens cause I already have two roosters. One on the good side and the other a mean honory cuss. He hates me and the feeling is becoming mutual!!!! lol. He has attacked me twice there won't be a third time. He is separated from the rest where he can't even see them. I'm the head chicken in this house LOL.

Just for fun, I tried it on the chicks I have on my brooder. Either the professional who vent sexed them was wrong about the sex on 7 of the 14 chicks, or this method is bunk.

If only that were accurate I believe Mic, sexing is only 89 or 96% accurate as females can sometimes have a bump also

100% accurate method of sexing chicks is to grab her egg or hear his crow .

We tried hanging our chicks upside down by their feet. By this method we decided we had 5 pullets, 1 roo & 1 unknow. I am going to try the scruff method and see what I come up with. Big but though Iswear 1 of the "pullets" was trying to crow and they are only 3 weeks old. Anyone have a roo crowing that early? Maybe I'm just imagining things. I hope so because it was the pullet I was going to keep out of this batch.
