How to stop a roo from crowing? Any ideas?

You could try to sound-proof the coop or a cage just for him. Thick styrofoam insulation is fairly inexpensive, at least in my area, and does a decent job of sound-deadening

My banty frizzle cochin has the most pathetic crow. The kids say that even his crower is frizzled. My banty golden phoenix has a loud high pitched crow though.

As for stopping a roo from crowing, Mine crow whenever they feel like, dark or daylight.. Only way I know of is to turn him into dinner... but I love hearing mine crow...

Do you think a bantam would annoy neighbors if it was kept a fair distance for their house? Would they even hear it crow?

I kinda wanted a bantam Cochin but i don't want the neighbors calling the town about or chickens......

As noted above, some sound proofing will help. I have neighbors very nearby and having a roo has been a great worry (even tho I love the sound and find it pure pleasure compared to that of an incessantly barking dog).

My coop is insulated and in the winter with windows shut I don't think anyone hears him since their houses are also closed up with the cold weather. It is more of a worry in the late spring and early fall when the weather is so nice that neighbors have their windows open, and when the coop windows are also open. On the opposite end of the spectrum, when it is insanely hot out, neighbors have their windows shut and AC on so that muffles sound.

I try as often as possible to keep them in the coop till at least 8 so the full strength of his crow is not heard until after that hour. This is hard with work but I do my best, because I don't want the neighbors to complain and create a problem with me keeping him.
Luckily my guy doesn't crow much during the day, some days not at all. He tends to belt out some happy crows on particularly gorgeous days and I run to distract him if I'm home because even though I love it, again I worry about the neighbors....if someone wanted to make trouble they could....never mind that their dogs, chainsaws, leaf blowers etc. are infinitely louder and more annoying!

Mine crow day and night...they often crow because they are callig me. I find that if I keep them in their coop later, they crow less...like, not let them free range...also, when I let them out I give them a couple of handfuls of dry catfood or cracked corn...a treat to work on. That seems to shut 'em up in the morning.
I currently have one in a dog crate in the basement because he is fighting with the other so badly, and he crows constantly.
I think they care calling me, the hens, whoever...Ive wondered about the debarking operation that they can do on dogs...they burn the vocal chords and they heal up differently so its like a whisper. I did that with one dog because I was gonna have to get rid of her and she was an impossible rescue in the first place, and it worked beautifully.
seems like some smart bird vet oculd make a mint by figuring out a way to just sedate them and put a little hot iron in there and cauterize their voicebox. Im gonna ask the vet and look at the physiology of crowing.
There has to be a way...of course there is draino...that would cauterize things right up! Maybe too much;-)
Im just kidding!

Regarding the Bantam...I got a Serama that crows loud enough for the neighbors across the road to hear...some say that seramas are quiet, and if you're lucky you could get a quiet one, but mine is LOUD! The size of the bird isnt always an indicator.
