How to store eggs frozen in the coop

The temperature here has been well below freezing here for the last few weeks and sometimes by the time I get out to collect eggs they have frozen. (Our girls tend to lay super early in the am, as we have a light in the coop. No desire to get up at 4am to collect them before they freeze!) Typically we keep our eggs on the kitchen counter, but I am wondering if the frozen eggs need to be treated differently. Do they need to stay in the refrigerator? Will they spoil or stay fresh for a shorter time if I let them thaw and stay on the counter? Many thanks!

If they crack from freeze I throw them away. One of the things we found that really helps is putting feathers in our nest boxes from like an old feather pillow or when you butchered chickens. This keeps the eggs warm for about four hours.

I am in the middle of a frozen egg experiment. I want to see how defrosted eggs compare to eggs that haven't been frozen. I'm going to post my findings here: freezing eggs??? some time tomorrow if you are interested. What I do know about frozen eggs is they can be kept in a freezer for up to a year and should be thawed slowly when you want to use them.

Feathers in the nesting box is a great idea LukensFarms. 4 hours would be plenty of time. I will give that a try!
