I just adopted two hens and a rooster to add to my flock, one of the hens have clear scaly feet, how do I treat them and can it affect the hens I already have?
Thanks!

Scaly leg mites can definitely affect all chickens in your coop. Any new chickens should be in quarantine for at least 30 days away from your other chickens, to make sure they are not sick, to worm, and check for other parasites. Leg mites can be treated by losening the scales with a soapy bath for the legs using an old toothbrush to gently wash the legs. Then apply an oil of your choice once a week and massage the oil under the scale. Some of the better options are castor oil, vegetable oil, petroleum jelly. Many say that castor oil (less than $3 in the drug stores and Walmart) stays on longer and has healing properties.
