How to tell a 4yo that you ate their drake...

I honestly don't see an issue with being honest with the kid, it's cruel and irresponsible to hide the basic facts of life from a child, they are going to learn about death and loss eventually it's best not to sugar coat life and give them the false impression that life is fair and things will always work out, children that are lied to and protected grow up to be brats. I was raised on a farm though so my views are different . Byc is a plCe for friends, fun , and advice. I fail to understand how "adults" let themselves get bent all out of shape over a duck :-|

Can we close this thread on that please?

As I see it the duck needs one of the following:

1) broken of the aggressive behavior, which can be very difficult even when under the care of experienced poultry owners.
2) properly rehomed, which DOES NOT INCLUDE SETTING HIM FREE AT A POND! That is illegal and potentially dangerous for the duck and any migratory fowl.
3) sent to freezer camp.
4) sold, no questions asked, which means he will probably be eaten.

The child... The 4 year old child should not be allowed to roam the neighborhood, and it is the responsibility of the parents to inform the child about the duck, not the neighbor.

Okay, this is the most STUPID thread ever. I'm SO sorry I caused trouble... I just like the BYC community and I thought you would have nice, fun answers. I never dreamed that it would be so mean and cruel. Y'all are so worried about hurting a little girls feelings, who has no idea this is even going on. What about my feelings? I have said nothing hurtful and unkind on this thread. I'm going to report this thread... I don't want anybody else seeing how stupid we all were. Thanks for your help... -troyer gal

Wow, who knew this could turn into 8 pages.

OP, if she notices, "Sorry honey, he died"
No lying and 4 year olds know things die.
