How to tell if an egg is fertilized?

As our chickens are getting older (8-10 weeks) we believe we have one rooster. With that, how will we be able to tell if an egg is fertilized or not? I'd rather not crack an egg open to fry, only to find a baby chicken developing...Thanks!

As long as you collect the eggs daily, you do not risk cracking open an egg and finding a chick inside. They need to be incubated at the right temperature for days before they will develop if they are fertile.

Yes, the eggs do not need to be kept in the fridge.

They will only develop if kept at the exact right temperature and humidity which is approximately 100 degrees F. So even sitting on your kitchen counter they won't spontaneously grow chicks!

As you can see, once you crack a fertile egg open into the pan to cook or whatever, it's not much different from one that hasn't been fertilized. They don't taste any different either.
