How to tell if Coturnix quail eggs are going to hatch?

Todays day 17 and I'm getting so anxious. I wish I could candle them. Is there any safe method to check and see if they're going to hatch. I've had some problems with the incubators temperature and humidity-piece of junk, got a new one now

so I'm nervous whether they'll hatch or not! Can I do the water test?! Or is it too soon?

if you cancel it and all the blood vessels are red it's likely it's still alive if not check for its heartbeat by putting a powerful flashlight under the egg and then looking at the embryo.
