How to tell if Coturnix quail eggs are going to hatch?

DON'T TOUCH THAT BATOR

Give them a few days. You might wake up in the morning and be surprised! Well mine I knew hatched because they peeped loudly once they were out LOL.

Hang in there!

I generally give my coturnix eggs the whole 21 day spa treatment before I try to monkey with them. I give any (locked down) eggs in my hatchers a 7 day lease. After that, a float test may be preformed, but I generally just evict the leftover unhatched 21 day old eggs. If it's the whole batch, then I would float test, or scrap the batch and recycle the hatcher.(Never had that happen, but it could).

I generally get the bulk of my coturnix hatches somewhere between day 17 and 19 based on my bator and hatcher settings, the moon cycle, the color underwear I'm wearing, or what ever.

Breaking lock down, for any reason other than retrieving a chick, may actually belabor the hatching process...IMHO!

I have had chicks hatch on day 16,17,18,19,20, and even day 21.

I know its hard to wait but trust me its worth it!

Be sure your counting set day as day zero not 1...
I always wait up to 3 days after due date before I float test.
and mine love to hatch while I'm either asleep or away at work the little goobers..

I thought I was a goober trying to point out (in other threads) the fact that 19-20+ day hatches were little more than miscounting! The day you set them is day Zero, and 24 hours later is day 1.

As much as I LOVE watching the little fuzzy butts hatch, they usually hatch while I'm sleeping, or doing other things. As much as I love to watch them hatch....nothing like waking up to 13 fuzzy butts waiting for the brooder out of 15-20 eggs set.

Patience, is a virtue sometimes.

Looks like the brooders empty tonight!
I've taken all your advice and haven't touched them! haha
Lets hope they don't make me wait much longer, I might go insane

What date did you set them? I'll do my fuzzy math and attempt to determine an approximate hatch date.

Good for you for not trying to monkey with them...float test them or otherwise try to speed them up, and please don't try to bust them out!

Nature works very fast sometimes, but usually doesn't fit into most peoples schedules!
