How to tell male or female. UPDATE with pics.

I thought they were pilgrims!

The female does not have a black beak; it is merely dark from when she was very young. Their beaks are dark purple to nearly black, depending on the strain, as babies. Because yours are still young, the female still has a bit of a dark beak, but it is largely orange. Very cute. Pilgrims are one of my favorite breeds. They are quiet, gentle, wonderful parents and are great foragers.

I would be happy with Pilgrim geese. Mine are very sweet and docile. They are keepers.

OMG..I am in LOVE! I saw an ad on Cl a while ago...maybe i should call about them, they were only asking $15/ea for a mated pair, is that a good price for Pilgrims?

can you guys tell me about their personality? argh, i am hijacking your thread, i will post a new one!

They look like my pilgrims. Mine are not 100%pure but mostly pilgrim genes in their heritage. I have one who is 25% african and 75% Pilgrim (my best guess anyway) that looks a lot like your darker one. I also have a pilgrim that we believe is a full blood pilgrim gander and he looks like your white one. He does have some spots of gray on the ends of some feathers.

I also have one Pilgrim that is colored like a female but is aggressive and never lays eggs... suspect he must be a gander but I can't get close enough to tell and I've never seen it mate.

I paid $20.00 each and ended up with two ganders so yah I’d say $15.00 a piece for a mated pair is good deal.

Very, VERY sweet and quiet. They make a lot of sounds (at least ours do) but its very low squeaks and grumbles. The oldest is starting to get his Honk but again its not loud at all. If you’re more that fifteen feet or so away you can’t even hear him.
