I have 51 two week old chicks and 25 of those were a straight run of 16 Maran's and 9 Welsummer's. The other (female) birds I have are Americana's, Jersey Giants and Buff Cochins.
I am thinking about keeping just the Maran roo's and I picked my chickens by egg color so I could control which to hatch, but how do I tell which is the best roo? Do I go by which matures fastest?
Below is my pick so far, he's only two weeks old...BTW, I am assuming this is a roo because his coloring and it looks like he's already getting "bars" on his wings.
My poultry judging skills are not great so any input is appreciated.
