I have 3 EEs, and 1 Ameraucana....according to SamG whom I got them from. I look them over and look them over and I really cannot understand the difference.

The Ameraucana is blue with muffs and beared
THe one EE is black with muffs and beared, as well are the other two at Lavendar Duckwing and silver duckwing.

Are you only able to tell by nonshowable colors and by the eggs they lay or...is there other ways to tell as well? I want to breed for PURE ameraucanas (and am getting show stock) and i want to be able to KNOW matter-of-factly from now on when I get birds in or consider buying birds again how to tell the difference without seeing them lay an egg

Thanks I appreciate the lack of help. I was hoping someone could share pictures and point out the differences in their own birds.... I"VE BEEN TO THAT SITE AND I KNOW HOW TO READ thank you very much. As I said i've been there twice, I have 3 EEs and 1 ameraucana....sorry this wasnt clear last time....

I've been to that site twice.....I still dont physically see the differences

An Ameraucana is ONLY an Ameraucana IF it is one of the acceptable colors, has the muff/beard, the correct color shanks, has the correct comb and no or almost no wattles, white skin, lays blue or blue/green eggs. It has to meet ALL the criteria. (I don't think I missed any of them, but if I did I am sure someone will add the missing factor to the list.)

I find the breed fascinating, although I don't own any. I've been reading about them on and off for about a year now, and I still cannot always identify what color I am looking at. Some of the Wheaten/Blue Wheaten still throw me.

Thank you Farmgirlie and Rusty I appreciate trying to explain it to me...this is what I was getting from that site and it was frusterating me that it's not clear cut info. To me this info and that on the site, are telling me that the black hen could still be an Ameraucana, and i know she's not....however if she lays a blue egg im going to scream (because once again ill be confused).

All the information about the differences are on the site. There are pictures of the eight recognized varieties in bantam and large fowl. There are also pictures of chicks and what the down color should be for those eight recognized varieties.

There are also a couple of pages dedicated to the breed standard and what the differences are between ee's, araucanas and ameraucanas.

This has been discussed heavily on this site and there are many posts regarding it, if you would use the search key you can find them.
