this tells me that Ameraucanas are really mutts then....inside it all....if they dont breed true (even sometimes), they are still mixed breeds...like an EE!....

OH LET ME CONFUSE YOU EVEN MORE.... Certain different color varities in the Ameraucana breed can be bred together and their resulting offspring birds retain their Ameruacana colors and characteristics.
But certain other colors varieties of the Ameraucana breed can be bred together and the resulting offspring will produce a non conformed or confirmed color variety and there you are right back at EE quality again.

okay...so this tells me that Ameraucanas are not REALLY true breeds??......like say a RIR hen and a RIR roo....you KNOW you will get a 100% RIR chick!....

NO...Ameraucanas are a "TRUE" breed. But when you mix CERTAIN of the color varieties you can get non standard colors that aren't yet a recognized color by the APA...american poultry association. It takes many many steps to get a color vaiety recognized. Until recognized or established as a color variety the birds are considered EE.

yes i second that! (about being greatful for the help) LOL

I *think* i understand it though...just like how in rabbits, if you breed a black otter holland lop to a tort, you will get both showable and NONshowable colors.....a nonshowable being TORT otter, a showable being black otter. So that part does make sense to me....and gets me over the confusion hump of....are they really mutts? Okay no they're not I get that now! LOL YAY!

My question for those of you who show or atelast breed true ameraucanas...

can you LOOK at all EEs and tell by looking that they're EEs? Have any ever baffled you until they layed?
