How To Tell The difference?

I have a mixture of 2 month old barred rocks and cuckoo Murans running around together, any ideas on how to tell them apart before they start laying?

The best way to tell is that Marans should have white legs and the BR should have yellow. Also, if they're UK standard, the Marans won't have feathered legs. If their French standard, they'll have feathers on their legs.

The breeds as a whole. They are very difficult to tell apart when they are running around together, add to that that there are close to thirty of each breed, and its a little interesting trying to get a count on how many of each breed there are.

you could use chicken leg bands just use a different color for each breed of chicken for example you could use orange for the murans and blue for the barred rocks

If you look at their leg color on the roost at night, wearing a headlight, can you tell the BR's from the Marans?
