How to train a duck

My husband has a bad back from breaking it as a teenager. Now he has peripheral neuropathy, too, so he is always flirting with disability, or dodging the bullet, since he really wants to keep working. I hurt my back in May, then developed tendinitis in my right arm using the power tools necessary to build the coop. We all got sick with some flu in July. Now, they think I have carpal tunnel syndrome. So I am super happy that the ducks are now outside, since I was having to hand-carry them in and out of the house from their brooder pen indoors every day. I have a pet gazebo where they could stay outside and be protected enough during the day if I had to leave for awhile. I put their food and a two-foot round doggie pool in it so they would have what they needed, despite the close quarters. They preferred that to going back inside and being carried out again.

 I need to study dialect and polyonymy. Oops! Well perhaps just leaving the bin out with the ducks so they aren’t so afraid of it. I agree, it’s definitely time for them to be outside! But if you can’t help it and have to bring them in then you should try to make it as stressless as possible! Hopefully it is just a phase and maybe you’ll even get them outside comfortably before the phase is over- or maybe it will end tomorrow :fl. Again, good luck! And I hope you and your husband feel better soon.

Thanks, CarleeAnn. My hubby is better now. As it is, I'm the one who caught the bug last. Now I know what everyone was moaning and groaning about.

I definitely want to make the transfer stress free. It broke my heart to hear my duck so upset yesterday.

I know, upset ducks are so saddening! :hit

I vote to bring the fence back. You know your ducks best and if you don’t think they can become accustomed to the bin then I think a different option is in order.

We’re just getting over a bug here too- prayers for a speedy recovery for you!

You might let them in a inflatable pool or a wide bowl to let them swim around. Ducks can not be happy if they don't swim or go outside for at least 30 minutes a day.
