I mix up the solution in a spray bottle. I spray the birds under their wings and the vent area.

I rarely spray the birds for lice. Maybe once a month.
I believe to a degree that the less you do for the chickens the better off they will be.

You say three days, other people say every 2-3 day for weeks, so which one is it? Note that I'm not picking on you, there just isn't any properly documented information on the subject. And what about severe cases? Do you treat those the same?

You can pick on me if you like.
I do the routine mentioned because that's what I've found works best.
Getting full coverage can be difficult in one hit.
Killing the mites is easy enough and I would guess/bet that one decent coat would do the job if applied at night while the subject is roosting.
Getting the eggs is the problem. You need to repeat the treatment to catch the hatchings.

Eh what havoc suggested to me has worked perfectly for lice an what not, I still have some wd40, pb blaster, kerosene around and just incase I have the shine for an all out shit an get it emergency!

You can bang a nail into a piece of wood with a sledgehammer...............

...and it's faster and easier than using a hammer meant for finish nails, even if both work eventually.

I use coconut oil spray, the kind for greasing pans. It works all right, but it's a pain to put on repeatedly, especially in winter. I have a few I'm treating now. I don't use Ivermectin because I'm cheap and it is not!
I've been considering using gasoline instead, because the longer I spend greasing bird legs the more I hate it.
