How to Treat Scaly Leg Mites

I'm sure they are....just really want to know how often this happens and what can be observed of the process. We know so much about feather replacement, am just kinda baffled there is not more info around about leg scales.<scratches head>
I just sent an email to a poultry scientist I’m in touch with. I hope he can shed some light on this topic. :fl

I have a turkey that got her leg caught on my way trailer and ripped a 2" section of her leg skin and scales off. It took *forever* to heal, and it doesn't look quite right, but I will try to get some pictures of it.
Did her scales grow back in the area that the skin got pulled off? I wonder if scales, feathers, and hair all don’t grow back if the skin has been ripped clean off :idunno

The poultry scientist said that scaly legs mites are common when the weather is cold. He also said that the scales regenerate by themselves and that it will take some time for them to regrow.
:thumbsup
