How to use heat plate

DETODDA Upgrade Chick Brooder Heating Plate, 12" x 12" Brooder Heater for Chicks, Chicken Brooder Heater Plate with Adjustable Heights and Angle, Warmer Brooder plate for Chicks or Ducklings https://a.co/d/5nWRjZm
Thanks.
Tho I am intrigued by the plate, and the frame allows for nice adjustments...
...it also traps them under the plate on 3 sides, which is NOT GOOD.

To minimize chances of a chick getting "stuck" anywhere it's best to place it a few inches away from any wall on all sides.
Won't matter with this model, check out the link.

This is no different than the outdoor brooder mama set ups, which are a cave with no exit but at the front.

People have *loads* of success with those set ups.

If you can afford a different heat plate and would feel more comfortable *yourself* with having one with open sides, then replace it to make yourself feel better but this one is very likely just fine.

Thanks.

Interesting... never seen one with a frame like this. Glad you asked for a link because I just figured it was like most others, with individually adjustable legs.

Wonder if the "side baffles" can simply be removed so they can at least spill out the sides if needed. Trying to "hold in heat" is not necessary in most cases.

I took the back baffle off 😀

The clear plastic side parts can be but I don't think the lower gray part of the side frames can be removed.

Got pics?

This looks perfectly fine. I know it's easy to fret and worry and wring hands, but you're doing the best you can, setting up early and caring so much about doing well is going way farther than a lot of people do! They are getting a great start!
