How to wire a computer fan to LG

Based on this picture I found of an LG incubator

You really only have one good spot... which is where the fan kit goes (I think). The blank spot on the underside of the lid... in the middle by the red vent hole.

It's pretty centered on the box which should give you even circulation. Point the fan downwards... and be sure to space it down off the lid a little so it can draw air in behind it and blow it down.

Just to be clear (not to offend/insult)... You are NOT cutting a hole in the lid to mount this fan. The fan is mounted inside the box. It just moves around the heated air in there. You will need a small hole to pass the wire through. Pass the wire through before you connect up the fan to the charger... so you only need a small hole big enough to slide the wire through.

Good luck!

I wanted to add my 2 cents!

I installed my fan blowing up AWAY from the eggs, I mounted mine with spacers so that the air pulled UP, hit the top of the bator and caused a circular flow which moves past the heat coil, kind of like an air "doughnut" centered around the fan. I had poor luck with hatches, perhaps this was a compounding factor! Bargain reports below that her factory installed fan points AT the eggs!

Nancy, thanks for clarifying this! I am not a success at hatching, but I sure can take apart things! The below info will hopefully help someone get a 4" fan for free or cheap.

A 2" fan MIGHT be a little small, I am pretty sure the $30 kits are a 4" fan. If you get a fan out of a computer, DO NOT follow the instructions for the "Fan Kit", it is a 120 volt fan! Use a 5-12v DC adapter to power the fan!

Just FYI, I went into my local computer repair place and told them what I wanted and they GAVE me 2 non-working power supplies, I dissected them using only a screwdriver and a pair of wire cutters and ended up with 2 working 4" fans! Every computer I have ever seen has at least one 4" fan inside it!

I wish you luck with your hatching!

edited to remove the recommendation that the fan point down, based on Bargain's post and add the warning about the wiring.

Actually I have one hovabator Incubator that came with an installed fan, it blows downward bringing the head from the heat ring down to the eggs... I've modified our other two incubators by adding computer fans to them, again pointing toward the eggs. I would recommend putting them in the middle of the top part of the styrofoam incubators. One of mine had one put on the side and that created a very uneven heat distribution.

Hope this helps! Have a blessed day! Nancy
