I myself do you supplemental light sources in my coop during the winter. The birds in my flock that didn't lay all winter were my oldest generation of birds who went through a hard molt. Younger birds three years and under who went through a light molt in a short amount of time bounced back and kept laying.

will be making mods to the shed including properly done power this season, so fingers crossed. All of my hens are just about a year old. Will be brooding some new ones to add this year.
adding the Aracaunas (sp?) And possibly Silver Laced Wyandottes but I'm reading some negative outcomes with the slw. So that could change.
