How well does the paint pan with grid work for keeping pen dryer?

I ve seen a video where they suggest one uses a paint pan with grid to keep ducklings water on so you can dump pan periodically to keep pen dryer? Anyone done this?

All I can say is this 18x18 inch pan helped SOME but good golly they made a soggy mess anyway.

I just use an old pizza pan, inside a plant saucer.

I ended up with a cookie cooling rack over a cookie sheet with rubber shelf liner on that. SO far so good. I am updating the water containers to glad storage containers that I have cut a few holes in. My old neighbor showed the water container idea to me with her ducklings. Being a shallower pan I do have to empty it often but its still a whole lot better then last weeks sogginess.

They work well if you have a small number of ducklings.
